CBC reports that the Manitoba government is renaming a 322-kilometre section of Provincial Road 391, between Lynn Lake and Thompson, after the musician. Cochrane was born in Lynn Lake, the province's fourth-largest town.
An official announcement will come from the province at 12 p.m. ET today (October 31), for which Cochrane, Premier Brian Pallister, Infrastructure Minister Blaine Pederson and Lynn Lake Mayor James Lindsay will be present.
Having become a household name in Canada through fronting Red Rider, the song effectively launched Cochrane's solo career upon its release in 1991. It was his only Top 40 hit in the United States and has been covered by Rascall Flatts, Chris LeDoux, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Jerry Jeff Walker and Home Free, among many others.
