Country singer Toby Keith has died. He was 62.
He died Monday (February 5) due to stomach cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2022. He died surrounded by family. "He fought his fight with grace and courage," a statement posted to his website reads.
Keith rose to fame in the '90s with a series of hit albums, as well as massive singles like "Should’ve Been a Cowboy." He became a divisive figure following 9/11, as he wrote about patriotism in songs like "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" and "American Soldier."
During the '00s, he had more huge hits, including the Willie Nelson-featuring "Beer for My Horses" and "As Good as I Once Was." He feuded with the Chicks over their criticism of President George W. Bush.
Keith had been married to his wife Tricia Lucus since 1984. He had three children.
