Consisting of 13-year-old Ivan (vocals/guitar), his 11-year-old sister Ada (bass/vocals) and Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) on drums, the Tiny Masters of Today were more of a novelty band than expected. Their recordings make them sound like trashy garage rock hellions and problem children with more talent than manners. In person, theyre understandably amateurish and too stone-faced to be bratty. Plodding through chords like they were practicing scales, these kids need a few more years under their belts before they can live up to their recordings in a live setting. When they can sound as good live as they do canned, they might be able to take over the world. Right now, they could only take over the playground.
