Since other members of the National have been busy working on Taylor Swift "indie" albums and solo projects, the group's Bryan Devendorf has decided to do his own thing as well. He's started a solo project called Royal Green and just released his debut album under the moniker.
The self-titled effort was produced by Devendorf and Nate Martinez, with the National cohorts Aaron Dessner and Josh Kaufman both appearing. In addition to a bunch of originals, the record features a chunk of covers, including the Beatles' "Baby You're a Rich Man," Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and Bob Dylan's "If Not for You." Devendorf also takes a stab at a lost National track called "Halo Chagrin."

The National's Matt Berninger, meanwhile, is releasing his solo album Serpentine Prison on October 2 via Book Records, a new label that is a collaboration between Berninger and Booker T. Jones, alongside Concord Records.
