The Dears are plotting their return with Lovers Rock, and they are now teasing us with another new album track called "I Know What You're Thinking and It's Awful."

The song comes via an intimate performance clip featuring the band's core duo of core duo Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak.

In a statement, the Lightburn explained the following of the song:

This is a song that came in rather suddenly. I woke up one morning and there it was, playing in my head. The news story of a nationwide manhunt for a couple of teenage kids who were charged with 2nd degree murder played in the background. I finished the song as the news broke that two male bodies found were believed to be them. I am not at all saying the song is about this story, only that I was totally obsessed with the story as I wrote this song.

Yanchak added: "This is our 'The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get' — a dark, unsettling, unlikely pop ballad."

Down below, you can check out "I Know What You're Thinking and It's Awful" for yourself.

Lovers Rock — the Dears' eighth studio album — arrives May 15 through Dangerbird Records. The record follows 2017's Times Infinity Volume Two.

Lovers Rock is now available for pre-order.
