Colombian-Canadian singer-songwriter and producer Tei Shi has announced her forthcoming EP, as well as a run of headlining tour dates. Today, she's also shared new single "¿QUIÉN TE MANDA?"
BAD PREMONITION creeps up on March 17. It follows her 2020 EP Die 4 Your Love.
The six-track collection, which features previously released singles "BAD PREMONITION" and "GRIP," was written while Tei Shi was reckoning with her own role in being manipulated, documenting her journey to both taking accountability and empowering herself to tell off someone who had wronged her.
"'¿QUIÉN TE MANDA?' is a song about deception," the artist said in a press release. "It tells the tale of deceit — of trusting in others and as a result ending up losing control over oneself to them. When I wrote it, I had gone through a series of consecutive situations in the music industry where I'd been locked into contracts that ultimately took away my freedom as an artist and my ability to release music and move forward with my career. After ending up in a final similar situation, I went through the long and arduous process of getting my freedom and independence back."
She added that, while the saying is difficult to translate directly into English, it lands somewhere between the sentiments of "Who told you to do that?" and "Told you so."
Tei Shi is currently supporting Kimbra's North American tour, but she'll embark on her own headlining trek in April, beginning in New York on April 13. She'll come through Montreal to play Bar le Ritz on April 14, Toronto's the Garrison on April 15 and Vancouver's Fox Cabaret on April 18 before wrapping up back in the US with a show in San Francisco on April 26.
