Following a few years in production, Syl Johnson documentary Any Way the Wind Blows makes its world premiere this Sunday (October 18) in Chicago. In case you can't make it to the Windy City for the first screening, you can check out a few highlights via a new movie trailer.
As you'll see down below, filmmaker Rob Hatch Miller chronicles the career of the prolific soul man, who it's noted in the trailer is "relatively unknown" despite his healthy and hefty back catalogue, and being sampled by the likes of the Wu-Tang Clan, Jay Z and Kanye West, De La Soul, Public Enemy and more.
There are a few vintage TV performances on display, some animated scenes, and the sight of a present-day Syl spitting a part of the Wu's "Shame on a Nigga." "I'm old school," he boasts playfully.
You can catch the trailer below, while the movie opens this weekend at Chicago's AMC River East 21 as part of the Chicago International Film Festival.
