Vancouver hip-hop collective Sweatshop Union has some big plans this summer. And they're not standard summer plans, like playing some festivals and catching some rays. Nope, the Canuck rap vets are chilling out this summer by releasing a trio of new albums.
The three records, all part of a Sweatshop Union Presents series, are the start of a new partnership between the Union and URBNET Records, who will release the albums on June 15 (August 10 in the States).
The three albums in the series are Sweatshop Union Presents: Pigeon Hole - Age Like Astronauts, Sweatshop Union Presents: Dirty Circus - Alive and Well, and Sweatshop Union Presents - The Trillionaire$.
The Pigeon Hole record features the two MCs/producers doing some varied work - going from classic hip-hop to psychedelia - while collaborating with D-Sisive, Moka Only, DJ Itchy Ron and Mos Eisley, according to a press release.
Dirty Circus's long-awaited disc finds them curating beats by Swollen Members' Rob the Viking and Chin Injeti and features collaborations by Geo from Blue Scholars and cuts by Rhettmatic, as well as appearances by Shad and the Pharcyde's Bootie Brown.
The Trillionaire$ is something entirely different, a hip-hop satire produced solely by Dirty Circus's Metty that is "both a critique of capitalism run amok as well as a paean to the good life to which we all strive," says the press release. The disc is a collaboration between Metty and scene vet Evil Ebenezer, and features cameos by Josh Martinez, Frank Nitt from Frank N Dank and AWOL ONE, among others.
Sweatshop Union's last album was 2008's Water Street.
