It was bound to happen sooner or later. A record label in the loosest sense, Toronto-based Imaginary Albums offers entire works by its (two) artists for free download on its website. The first guinea pig is Swain, an electronic producer with Aphex Twin aspirations. From the schizoid title track to the playful glockenspiel of "Sanguino Cholericus,” The Single balances experimentation with organic samples and a keen ear for melody. Those with a "slow internet connection, perverse generosity, or a fetish for tangible possessions” are encouraged, if somewhat reluctantly, to send ten dollars for a CD. Otherwise, all 12 tracks are just a few clicks away. The future is here, and it’s Imaginary.
