Sultans of String

Luna

BY Claire Marie BlausteinPublished Jul 20, 2007

A name like Sultans of String may strike you as odd, lofty or tongue-in-cheek but either way, it’s the chosen moniker for Chris McKhool, Kevin Laliberte, and Drew Birston, whose musical influences collect under the light of the moon on Luna. It’s a soothing mix — the blend of guitar, bass and violin strings weaves around the listeners, creating a wide variety of sounds and influences that always have their toes dipped in different musical pools, such as jazz, flamenco, gypsy, folk and others. It occasionally goes to the soporific side of the moonlight but a few choice tunes, especially "Kitchen Party,” which they describe as "Django Reinheart stumbling into an Irish Pub,” turn up the sun a bit, waking the listener out of a blissful slumber. A glass of wine and some stars and your night’s complete.
