It's about time Montreal pop/ska/punkers Subb got off their butts and penned a few new tunes. The kids have been dying to pick up fresh change for years now and, to be blunt, the Quebecois side of things has been sorely lacking, leaving things up to Toronto's Keepin' 6 and the Johnstones to wave the checkered flag.
The band have clearly heard the ruckus because they've gotten down to brass tacks and squeezed out a new puppy. The record is titled To This Beat and will be released through Union Label Group on June 2. As noted, it's been ages since the boys have done anything, The Motions having come out way back in 2006. Do you remember 2006? We sure don't.
As expected, Subb assert that To This Beat will boast much of the same punk, ska and reggae that we've come to know and maybe even love from them. Still, it's a bold one. They've gone so far as to reveal that reggae legend Jah Cutta - well, he's a roots/reggae god in Montreal at least - will be working on a few tunes. A video for lead track "I Love Montreal" (are you sensing a theme here?) is already underway, as are plans to hit the road with labelmates... the Johnstones!
As if you weren't expecting that.
