BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 30, 2020

Toronto-based hip-hop and dancehall artist Lexxicon releases his new album Bashment Trap House tomorrow (January 31), but you can give it an early listen right now.

The record hears Lexxicon drawing on Jamaican roots; he was born in Jamaica before moving to Birmingham, then New York, then Toronto.

It also hears him touching on themes like loneliness, body positivity, strong interpersonal bonds and celebrating youth.

"For me, this album represents all the different sides of my personality and all my different moods," Lexxicon tells Exclaim! "From wild and energetic to reflective and depressed it gives a broader picture of who I am. This album is adding a new flavor the hip-hop sounds coming out of Toronto, I feel like my background shapes the sound and allows me to stand out sonically and give people a look into what the marriage of dancehall and hip-hop could look, sound, and feel like."
