Stone Temple Pilots Reportedly Holding Auditions for New Vocalist

The surviving members of alt-rock outfit Stone Temple Pilots are searching for a new vocalist. Though the band's website is currently under construction, some online sleuthing has led to the reveal of an as-yet-unpublished statement from the group explaining that they're apparently about to hold public auditions to replace their late frontman Scott Weiland.

Alternative Nation reports that it searched the back end of the STP site, where the publication found a statement from the band's Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz. It reportedly explains that they're already in the midst of trying out new vocalists, but will now be opening up auditions to the general public.

News of the search comes close to two months after the band's founding vocalist Scott Weiland died of a drug overdose, though the singer had not performed with the group since 2013. His replacement, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, left the band last November. Now, apparently, the band are about to begin the process to find a new permanent frontperson via an online search.

The full message reportedly reads:

2016 marks a new year for Stone Temple Pilots…

A year of hope, optimism, and most importantly, new music! We are immensely proud of all that we have been able to share with you over the years. Music, music, music. We very much want to continue doing that, but that's going to take a little help from all of you.

As you know, prior to the untimely passing of our brother in arms, Scott, we had been working with the incomparable Chester Bennington. What you also likely know is that having Chester front two bands of this size and scope was too much for one man to be able to do and so regretfully we had to move onto a new chapter together. This is where you come in…

We are officially announcing that we are seeking a new vocalist to front Stone Temple Pilots. We've already heard from many talented people, but want to make this an opportunity for many more so we've set up a way for you to do just that.

If you think you have what it takes to front this band, record with this band, and tour with this band, we would dig hearing from you. No one will ever 'replace' Scott, that was never the intent. The intent is for Stone Temple Pilots to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do… make music! We look forward to seeing you.

Love,

Robert, Eric, Dean

Below, you'll find an official, uncovered YouTube video of the three musicians playing an instrumental version of their Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop single "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" from 1996. The lyrics are over here, if you want to give it a shot.

The details on how to submit have yet to be revealed, but will presumably be explained on the Stone Temple Pilots website sometime soon.
