The Sound of Animals Fighting

Tiger & The Duke

BY Liz WorthPublished Jul 18, 2007

Tiger & The Duke is a sonic assault riddled with genius translated into auditory fixations and uncontrollable meltdowns. This reissue of the long out-of-print debut by the Sound of Animals Fighting has been remixed and remastered, offering up a delusional sort of magnetism. Comprised of members of Chiodos, Circa Survive, Days Away, Finch and others, the Sound of Animals Fighting delve into new territory that is both haunting and aggressive, intimidating and liberating. Combining electronics, progressive overtures and saturated guitars, Tiger & The Duke is a record that will polarise listeners. Epic tracks like "Act 1: Chasing Suns” and "Act 3: Modulate Back to the Tonic” intersperse post-hardcore explosions with jarring samples and slow, sometimes bluesy breakdowns. There’s nothing easy about this album but that’s par for the course when barriers are being broken. Those who stick with it will discover brilliant calamities.
