Sodom

M-16

BY Greg PrattPublished Mar 1, 2002

You can sleep at night again, because Tom Angelripper is back. M-16 is a surprisingly enjoyable affair, although by no means is it anything new. It's another trip back to '80s German thrash, which was made popular by the triptych of Destruction, Kreator and Sodom. Classic thrash riffs, speedy tempos and indecipherable froggy vocals all combine for a glorious trip down memory lane. However, M-16 doesn't sound dated or boring, it's simply another stab at "by the book" thrash by a thoroughly competent bunch of vets. Another nice touch is Sodom's attempt at showing the atrocities of the Vietnam War through their lyrics, which finds the band traveling to Thailand and South Vietnam to do lyrical research.
