Early in J Dilla's career, the late hip-hop producer was a member of Detroit hip-hop group Slum Village. Dilla's posthumous production features heavily on Slum Village's new album YES!, and this includes the De La Soul-featuring cut "Right Back."
This is a decidedly old-school offering with a classic-sounding drum loop, jazzy piano figure and DJ scratching, all of which provide a grooving backdrop for the declaration, "People think this is as easy as it looks." Think again. The track was produced by Dilla and Young RJ.
YES! is out on June 16. It also features Bilal, Black Milk, BJ the Chicago Kid and more.
