The first surprise "pop up show" of Lawnya Vawnya took place at a chic clothing store called Model Citizens. Toronto's Slim Twig filled the boutique with an unrelenting, swirling sonic drone, sporadically interrupted by distorted vocals. The artist known as Slim Twig has abandoned his slick, '50s rocker pompadour for a decidedly more scuzzy Thin Lizzy look and here he was joined by Meghan Remy of U.S. Girls, who spent the entire set kneeling before a tape machine and a Moog Rogue, tapping melodies out into the abyss. It was loud, building and building from a foundation of noise that shifted imperceptibly between songs before climaxing into something that stood out as an arranged tune.
