This March will mark 30 years since the release of Skydiggers' eponymous debut album, and the Toronto outfit have announced plans to celebrate the anniversary both onstage and on wax.
Next month, Skydiggers will play a pair of 30th anniversary shows at Toronto's Monarch Tavern to mark the occasion. The band will perform their debut album in its entirety along with other fan favourites. In addition, they will abe joined by original member Peter Cash.
Both a 7 p.m. early show (doors 6:30 p.m.) and a 9:30 p.m. late show (doors 9 p.m.) will take place March 14. Tickets for both performances are now available for purchase.
Additionally, Skydiggers are also giving their album its first-ever vinyl issue. Set to arrive March 19, the LP will feature two additional tracks not included on the original recording, on top of a 7-inch single from the band's days as West Montrose.
The vinyl release of Skydiggers is available for pre-order. The band have also started a "Hindsight 2020" Facebook community for listeners to share their memories, which can be found here.
They also penned the following message:
As we age we seek out opportunities to revisit fond memories... to reconnect with who we once were... and to remind ourselves of who we once were as a way to stay grounded as we move forward into times unknown and perhaps uncertain... but also to move forward by revisiting what made us happy, certain ventures successful and with whom and why those collaborations succeeded... to remember one's history... and to realize that after all of the laughs and the triumphs, arguments and failures, the reasons for doing this or not doing that, we're left with only the music and friendships forged in rehearsal spaces, on stages both big and small and on the highways and in the truck stops across this magnificent country.
And so we intend to take this year, 2020, the beginning of a new decade and 30 years after the release of our first album in March of 1990, to celebrate, in hindsight, the memories, the songs, the people and the shows that have been such an important part of our journey from then until now... a celebration that will include a year long series of special concerts and musical releases starting with a first time on vinyl, 30th Anniversary re-release of our first album "Skydiggers", highlighted by two shows at the Monarch Tavern, Saturday, March 14th, featuring Peter Cash and the band playing the first album in its entirety.
And we hope that we will hear from you... about your favourite memories, favourite songs, favourite shows... because from the first show, the first recording, there has been a conversation between us that has lasted for over thirty years... a conversation between old friends that is always ready to pick up from wherever it left off as if no time had passed at all... a conversation full of new love and broken hearts, friendship and loss... a conversation about life told through music.
Hindsight. 2020. Let's get started... together.
