Fans have been waiting for the return of Sky Ferreira for nearly a decade now, and after years of teasing, unfulfilled announcements and missed deadlines, it looks like the elusive alt-pop artist is finally ready to share some new music.
Today, Sky took to Instagram to share a brief snippet of a new song called "Don't Forget," which includes a sparkly, '80s-inspired title card. What can be heard of the song is promising, with some corroded, roiling synths rumbling under Ferreira's echoing vocals. She captioned the post "Remember Me?"
Back in December of 2021, shared a screenshot of Stereogum's most anticipated albums of 2022 list, where she placed at No. 4 between Arcade Fire (who announced WE earlier this month) at No. 5 and My Bloody Valentine at No. 3.
"Top 5 most anticipated albums of 2022 ... (It happens every year but it's actually coming out this time)," Ferreira wrote.
Ferreira — plus her mother and her label, Capitol Records — had hinted that new music would be arriving this month. However, according to an Instagram story from Ferreira, that's now been pushed back to April. That announcement was obviously concerning to fans, but this snippet provides some hope that Ferreira really is gearing up to release a new record.
Sky Ferreira's debut album, Night Time, My Time, came out in 2013. Its follow-up, potentially still called Masochism, has been in the works ever since. In 2019, she released "Downhill Lullaby" — her first new single since Night Time, My Time — and linked up with Charli XCX for "Cross You Out."
