Leaving EP

Sonny Moore (otherwise known as Skrillex) has released his latest EP, Leaving, as a free download. The EP consists of three tracks ("Leaving," "Scary Bolly Dub" and "The Reason"), all of which have retired the wobbling bass usually associated with Skrillex's music. In a recent note after the EP dropped, Moore revealed that the songs were last minute, experimental and entirely the work of how he was "feeling right now." The title track is an indication that Skrillex might be leaving his bro-step reputation and its raucous build-up behind. However, some of that trademark Skrillex sound is still present, especially on the highly infectious "Scary Bolly Dub," which could be the love-child of "Ruffneck" and "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites." "The Reason," the best track on the EP, sits well next to "Leaving," albeit with a more rewarding drop, some electrifying loops and a synth-y bass line. Although it's unclear if this new Skrillex sound will be permanent, it is admirably shocking.
