Since their formation in 2008, Skeletal Spectre have been consistent with their death metal. Their particular blend is comprised of authentic Swedish death and good old-fashioned doom. Voodoo Dawn proves that you can never down tune your guitars enough and there's no such thing as "too much distortion" — the guitars are thoroughly soaked in the stuff. While this isn't anything particularly new to extreme metal, the vocals of Vanessa Nocera are a point of interest. While female vocalists continue to appear in the metal world, the more extreme genres tend to have a skewed ratio favouring men. That said, Vanessa howls like a banshee, growls like a demon and does a brilliant job projecting her dynamic voice alongside the hellish sounds of her anonymous bandmates. While Voodoo Dawn may not be anything new to the ears, it's defiantly a step in the right direction for Skeletal Spectre.
