Graveyard Classics 2

BY Greg PrattPublished Feb 1, 2005

It’s kinda cool how the band kept this one a secret until it was released, only telling the public it was the second instalment in their series of cover albums (yawn, yawn, yawn). But check it out: Graveyard Classics 2 is a complete re-recording of AC/DC’s classic Back in Black album, done up death metal style. So yeah, right down to the cover (kinda) and the song order, it’s a total homage to one of the best-selling rock albums of all time. And I may be totally sick of cover albums, but this is a cool idea. Of course, better in theory than in practice: I got a kick out of hearing Chris Barnes growl his way through these songs once, but going back for repeat listens just seems futile. That’s what the original is for; this one is for a lark when the pals are over. Cool to see SFU giving some respect where it’s due, but hearing cuts like "You Shook Me All Night Long” and the classic title track essentially the same but with Barnes’ growling vocals isn’t really a recipe for regular rotation.
