Single Mothers Announce New Album 'Roy,' Share Two New Singles

The Canadian punks' forthcoming record may be their last

In the midst of their East Coast tour with Chastity and Botfly, London, ON-bred punks Single Mothers — or SM Worldwide, depending on who's asking — have announced plans for their next, and possibly final, album.

Roy will arrive via Dine Alone Records on April 28, and today, the band preview the effort with two new singles, "Head Shrunk," about the futility of therapy sessions, and "Sad Dumb Game," a "reflection of our intentions versus our actions."

Both tracks inhabit the ennui that reflect bandleader Drew Thomson's headspace when deciding whether or not to say goodbye to Single Mothers over the pandemic, which hit him particularly hard.

"If the band is done and this is the final record, then I'm happy with this one being the last one," Thomson said in a release.

"Some of the best and worst moments of my life are tied to this band. Part of me has been trying to get out of it since I started it, but it always drags me back in," he added. "I've realized that I'll probably never be able to walk away from it completely. Single Mothers is tied to my soul at this point, for better or worse. It has its claws in my heart."

Single Mothers have announced a slew of new tour dates with Chastity and Off with Their Heads, taking place through spring and summer in support of the record and including shows all over Ontario, Western Canada and the US. See the itinerary below.
