Almost 30 years into their career, Osaka, Japan's greatest indie rock export, one of the most legendary all-female power-pop bands (and one of Kurt Cobain's numerous "favourite" groups) are still hammering out their contaminating blasts of Ramones-inspired, three-chord fun with that eerily cutesy twist. Filmed in Buffalo, NY during the extensive North American Super Group tour, Live At Mohawk Place is as simple, yet effective, as the band's music: a couple of cameras capturing some light-hearted, romping, rockin' and rollin' fan favourites such as opener "Konichiwa," odd treat tribute "Banana Chips" and "Flying Jelly Attack," to newer material, including "Giant Kitty" and "Muddy Bubbles Hell." Delivered in their upbeat, giggly, typically polite manner, while never faulting musically, Live At Mohawk Place sounds perfect, looks great and inspires plenty of bouncy silliness; it doesn't shred so much as it delightfully cuddles the listener to death. Sadly, there are no extras.
