Sharon Van Etten and the Raincoats' Gina Birch have teamed up for a new illustrative lyric book as part of Volume's Illustrated Lyrics series. Pairing lyrics selected by Van Etten from her catalogue with illustrations by Birch, the book spans from 2009's because i was in love to this year's We've Been Going About This All Wrong

Available for a limited time, Van Etten and Birch's Illustrated Lyrics is bound in cloth and tucked inside a cloth-bound slipcase. The 1,000-copy edition is available in five colours and is signed by both Van Etten and Birch.

The book is the third in Volume's Illustrated Lyrics series. A description on the Volume website reads:

The naked human forms, the tangibility of flesh, bold colour palettes and the distorted surroundings of Birch's artworks convey the rawness, power and vulnerability of Van Etten's lyrics, which range from abusive relationships and emotional growth to motherhood, love and nostalgia for the selves we leave behind.

On her Instagram, Van Etten wrote:

This book is a labor of love that highlights lyrics from my songs and pairs them with Gina's hand-painted illustrations. The painting on the front cover of the book is an interpretation of the Katherine Dieckmann photo used for the album cover of Remind Me Tomorrow. A photo by an artist and mother, and the painting, a re-interpretation by an artist and mother.
