Savage

Savage Island

BY Neil AcharyaPublished Feb 17, 2009

Savage is a rapper from South Auckland, New Zealand who is of Samoan ancestry. He rose in popularity thanks to a track entitled "Swing" (from 2004's Moonshine, his debut album), which Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl got down to in the bar in 2007's Knocked Up. In case anyone forgot that was Savage, the track has been re-released twice on sophomore album Savage Island, one featuring the ever-talented Soulja Boy and if that wasn't enough, he also gives the people a remix. The cutting and pasting from the previous album doesn't stop there, Savage Island also contains the title track from Savage's debut album, featuring Akon. Savage has a booming voice and the few times he actually gets down to something insightful, such as rapping about his upbringing on "Family Tribute," or creating a track for those across the globe with roots in Island countries ("I Love the Islands"), it's simply a case of too little too late.
