Last Friday (September 23), Red Hot Chili Peppers paid tribute to late guitar god Eddie Van Halen with their new single "Eddie." The song has evidently gone over well with surviving members of Van Halen, since singer Sammy Hagar has praised it, and Eddie's bass-playing son Wolfgang has also shown his support.
RHCP bassist Flea posted a clip of "Eddie" on Instagram last week, and Hagar jumped into the comments a couple days later. "Wow very soulful guys," he wrote. "I love hearing John shred like that sound [sic] like he was having some fun." He added a red heart emoji and wrote, "beautiful."
Eddie's son Wolfgang, who played bass in the final iteration of Van Halen, also commented, posting three red heart emojis.
The connections between Hagar and RHCP are well-established. Hagar plays with drummer Chad Smith in the hard rock supergroup Chickenfoot, and, scrolling through Flea's feed, Hagar seems to comment on practically every post.
Hear "Eddie" below. The Chili Peppers' album Return of the Dream Canteen is out October 14.
