Sam Smith

"Stay With Me" (live on 'Letterman')

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 19, 2014

The heart-aching qualities of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" ballad has had people dropping to their knees over the last few months, and you can now add David Letterman to the ever-growing list of the UK soul-singer's devotees. An orchestral version of the breakthrough In the Lonely Hour number was taken to Late Show with David Letterman last night (June 18), and you'll find the passionate performance down below.

While sharing the stage with a gospel choir, a string section and assorted band members, it's still Smith that commands attention the whole song through as he alternates between softly summarizing his vulnerability and belting out for a loved one to "stay with me." Letterman gave the track a big "wow" before grilling some cellists about their sheet music.

You'll find the whole R&B-touched display down below.
