Sure to set off rap fans and feline fiends into a rapturous chorus of purrs, it turns out we're not going to have to wait nine lives to hear Run the Jewels' Meow the Jewels variation of their forthcoming RTJ2. The gimmicky, guests-loaded project has officially met its Kickstarter goal and is apparently on the way.
Today (October 15), Run the Jewels' El-P confirmed the completed Kickstarter campaign with an Instagram post. It proved that the crowd-funded project, which re-envisions RTJ2 in cat sounds (à la Jingle Cats), had surpassed its initial goal of $42,000. As of press time, over 2,000 people have contributed to Meow the Jewels, raking in over $47,000. El-P reported that he'll be donating funds from the album to the families of Eric Garner and slain Ferguson, MO teen Michael Brown.
As previously reported, the kitty-driven song cycle features extra production work from Portishead's Geoff Barrow, Just Blaze, the Alchemist, Skywlkr, Zola Jesus, Nick Rook, Baauer, Prince Paul, Dan the Automator, the Coup's Boots and Solidified Sun.
A due date for the alternate edition of RTJ2 has not yet been solidified, but the album proper lands October 28 via Mass Appeal Records.
