The Rum Circus

Toronto ON June 7 to 9

Playing to a woefully sparse crowd, the Rum Circus came all the way from the UK to give us a dose of ’70s influenced classic rock with a modern gothic leaning. The singer/pianist sang with power and clarity, the mix a perfect balance with swinging rock riffage employed by the band. A kick-ass drummer with chops like Dave Grohl addicted to swing and a guitarist who looked every inch and sounded every bent bluesy note like the daughter of Jimmy Page. Though all the component parts were impressive, the songs somehow weren’t as memorable is it seemed they should be. With some extra time spent on songwriting, the Rum Circus could add some necessary bite to their musical cocktail.
