The River and the Road have been plugging away in Vancouver for a few years, and now the folk rock band's hard work has paid off in the form of a record deal. They've signed with MapleMusic Records to release the new album Headlights, which will be out on May 12.
The album was produced by Jamey Koch (the Tragically Hip, D.O.A., Ron Sexsmith), with sessions taking place in Vancouver and Toronto. It apparently finds the band taking a step away from their acoustic roots towards a sound more akin to their live shows.
This can certainly be heard in the opening track "Mistakes," which is streaming at the bottom of this page. It's a rootsy number with heavily distorted, Crazy Horse-style guitar riffs.

Headlights:
1. Mistakes
2. I'm Broke
3. Somewhere Far
4. Coulee (The Prairie Song)
5. The Beast
6. Strange Disease
7. Child with a Gun
8. Weakness
9. Headlights
10. White Flag
