Refused Bring Their Reunion to a Close with Final Shows

Well, we sure hope you managed to catch Swedish hardcore game-changers Refused on their acclaimed reunion tour this year, because the band have now confirmed that the nostalgia trip is coming to an end. A Facebook message posted by the outfit earlier today (October 26) states that their December 15 performance in their hometown of Umea, Sweden, will indeed be their last.

The group statement pontificates on Refused's long journey, from the idyllic early days, to the jaded hiatus years, to the current victory lap that brought tunes from The Shape of Punk to Come , Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent and This Just Might Be... the Truth back to life on stages around the world.

"There was the year when you stopped being a petulant kid and you got your favorite musicians together in a room again and decided that you were gonna accept the love of thousands of listeners, accept the success that was waiting there to be had and just in general enjoy being appreciated for the exact same qualities that made you a freak to your contemporaries in your teens," they summarized of their triumphant 2012. "This was one of the better years."

The reunion tour, which brought them out to Canadian cities such as Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, apparently left a better taste in their mouths than their original implosion in a Virginia basement in 1998, and as such, had Refused ready to ring the requiem bell.

"Now it is coming to a close," they continued. "It's been kind to us. And that old punkrock golem 'The shape of punk to come' has done good. The hatchet is buried, 1998 is not such a terrible memory for us anymore. We're going home. And we're doing it in style."

There are still two U.S. shows to get through, as well as a quick tour of Australia and Scandinavia. Their December 15 finale at Umea's Exel Arena will also feature performances from fellow Swedes Randy, Two White Horses, and Råd Kjetil Senza Testa.
