Toronto pop songstress Ralph — a.k.a. Raffaela Weyman — has announced plans for a new EP titled Gradience. The record is due to arrive sometime this summer through her own label.
Inspired by timeless music icons including Cher, Donna Summer and Kate Bush, Ralph's Gradience is said to mark the return of "the glam '70s/'80s-inflected sound" of her 2017 self-titled EP. Today, the singer returns with a new single titled "Tommy," alongside its own Marie Antoinette-inspired music video.
"'Tommy' was written on a hot July day in my producer Derek's studio," Ralph said of the track in a statement. "This EP we really wanted to hit all my goals...and I've always always wanted to do a song where the chorus was a name (à la Dolly Parton 'Jolene' or Carly Rae 'Julian')."
She continued: "I told Derek that's what I wanted to work on, so we drank a bunch of coffee and ran through a million names until the line 'Tommy...do you want me' popped up. We both instantly knew it was the one and everything built so easily from there."
Weyman's latest full-length album was 2018's A Good Girl. Back in 2019, she dropped her Flashbacks & Fantasies EP.
You'll have to stay tuned for further details concerning the release of Gradience, but until then, you can watch Ralph's new video for "Tommy" below.
