Radiohead Drummer Phil Selway Sets Debut Solo Album for August Release

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 2, 2010

Last year, reports began circulating that Radiohead drummer Phil Selway was working on a solo album at Radiohead's Courtyard Studios. Then, earlier this year, he fronted the charity project 7 Worlds Collide on the folksy "The Ties That Bind Us" and "The Witching Hour."

Now, Selway has officially announced the release details of his solo debut. It's called Familial and is due out via Bella Union on August 30 in the UK. NME has a small thumbnail of the album cover, which depicts an awkward family photograph.

As we previously reported, Selway was joined during his solo sessions by an impressive cast of backing musicians, including Lisa Germano, journeyman bassist Sebastian Steinberg, Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone.

It's possible that "The Ties That Bind Us" will reemerge on Familial, as the song was a paternal ballad containing the lyric: "The family madness running through me." In any case, we can expect to hear more of Selway's hushed folk soon.

There is no word yet on a North American release date for Familial.

UPDATE: Here's the tracklisting, and yup, "The Ties That Bind Us" is on there.
