Fabric 48

BY Bryan WellsPublished Jan 11, 2010

The 48th edition of the immensely popular mix series welcomes underground dark horse Radio Slave to the Fabric family. Matt Edwards (the man behind the Radio Slave moniker) displays a perfectly mixed, hypnotic collection of 2009's underground gems. Ripe with energy and flow, Edwards controls the relatively stale tracks on their own with a delicacy and precision that allow each track to shine with a brilliance that would otherwise be overlooked. Amongst the repetitive darker edged play list, Radio Slave's "DDB," "I Don't Need a Cure for This" and "Koma Koma" stand out as the highlights in a mix that gradually builds towards a few familiar-feeling plateaus. A particular sequence of interest comes when Nina Kravis's "Pain in the Ass" grows nicely out of Spencer Parker's "The Beginning," launching into the darkness that follows with DJ Boola's "Balado Redo," a mix that is perfect for reliving those late nights in a warehouse you'll never see again.
