The Provincial Archive

'The Provincial Archive' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 12, 2015

Edmonton indie rock troupe the Provincial Archive recently unveiled plans for a new self-titled EP, and Exclaim! is giving you the chance to hear the whole thing a week before its release.

The Provincial Archive hears the band's recently downsized three-man lineup working with producer Nik Kozub and wearing their appreciation for '90s alt-rock on their collective sleeve.

Opener "Bad Connection" sets the tone with its Weezer-esque vibe, bringing together fuzzy guitars and hooky vocals. Things get even grungier on "Church Clothes" and "It's Easy," while "Absorbed" caps off the six-song set with a final hit of melodic verses and angsty, distorted bursts of guitar.

It's a delightful, nostalgic nod to the glory days of mid-'90s geek rock, and you can hear it now in the player below.

The Provincial Archive officially arrives on November 20 through the band's own Consonant Records.

Tour dates:

11/20 Calgary, AB - The Nite Owl
11/21 Lethbridge, ON - The Owl Lounge
12/18 Edmonton, AB - Studio 96
