For the second year running, Barcelona's Primavera Sound had cancelled its event due to the coronavirus pandemic. But after skipping 2020 and 2021, the 2022 edition of the festival just might make up for lost time, packing a serious punch with its lineup.
The festival has an absolutely enormous lineup planned, and will run for two weekends rather than one.
The first weekend — which takes place from June 2 to 4, 2022 — will include appearances from Pavement, the Strokes, Massive Attack, Tame Impala, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Gorillaz, Tyler, the Creator, Bikini Kill, Kacey Musgraves, Earl Sweatshirt, the National, Beck, Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Jorja Smith, Beach House, Caribou, Shellac, Jamie xx, 100 gecs, Dinosaur Jr., Kim Gordon, Sharon Van Etten, King Krule, Yo La Tengo, Rina Sawayama, Big Freedia, Brockhampton, Fontaines D.C., Weyes Blood, Helado Negro, slowthai, Disclosure, Ben UFO, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
The second weekend — which goes from June 9 to 11 — includes appearances from Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Interpol, Lorde, Megan Thee Stallion, Tame Impala, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Big Thief, Run the Jewels, M.I.A., Jay Electronica, Jessie Ware, Slowdive, Mogwai, Playboi Carti, Courtney Barnett, Brittany Howard, Dry Cleaning, Japanese Breakfast and Burna Boy, among others.
In the week between the first and second weekend, an enormous slate of musicians will play shows throughout Barcelona. The lengthy festival also concludes with a brunch on the beach party.
It's all very elaborate. You can find more information here or dig into the festival's posters below. More artists are expected to be announced in the coming months, although you'd be hard pressed to think of an artist that's not on here.
