The Postal Service We Will Become Silhouettes

Milking the cash cow for all it’s got, the Postal Service haven’t yet given up on their wondrously successful debut album, Give Up. Now two years after its release, the band has released another EP for the record’s third single, "We Will Become Silhouettes.” Though a poor choice for a single, this four-song EP (which includes the album version of the lead song) isn’t without its charm. Included is a brand new track by Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello, featuring part-time vocalist Jenny Lewis singing harmonies. "Be Still My Heart” isn’t one of their best, but it doesn’t fail to bring that touchy feely mood this act is renowned for. More interesting is Styrofoam’s bubbling remix of "Nothing Better,” a song that would have served as a much better single. The fourth and final song is Matthew Dear’s "Not Scared Mix” of the title track, which beautifully places Gibbard’s vocals into a field of acoustic guitars and gentle synthetic sounds. A treat for hardcore fans and completists, but this EP is nothing essential. (Sub Pop)
