Pony Girl have delivered another track from their forthcoming new album Laff It Off. "I Believe in Nothing" arrives today alongside a visual animated by Shiyi Li, and you can hear it below.
Don't let its title fool you; "I Believe in Nothing" doesn't come off as bleak as it sounds. If the instrumental dynamism that bursts from its cyclical groove doesn't uplift you, the music in tandem with Li's animation will.
In the clip below, the smiley face balloon that appeared in Pony Girl's video for "Laff It Off" sails through a cityscape, gradually joined by other inflatables like it as they drift into a psychedelic stratosphere.
"Everything is absurd and meaningless, but that's a positive," Pony Girl share of their latest. "'I Believe In Nothing' is a mantra for detachment, for releasing yourself of strong emotions, for taking control of your life. We hear that sense of freedom as careening guitars, synths rising, distortion and all. You can't help but feel exaltation."
As previously reported, Laff It Off arrives October 27 via Paper Bag, and is said to be the sister album of Pony Girl's 2022 LP Enny One Wil Love You.
Tomorrow (July 13), Pony Girl perform at Montreal's Diving Bell Social Club, ahead of a hometown appearance at RBC Ottawa Bluesfest the next day (July 14).
