PONY Announce 'Velveteen' LP, Share "Très Jolie"

The Toronto band's sophomore LP includes recent singles "Peach," "Did It Again" and "French Class"

PONY have a new album on the way. The Toronto pop duo comprised of Sam Bielanski and Matty Morand will release their sophomore project, Velveteen, on May 19 via Take This to Heart Records

Named for classic children's book The Velveteen Rabbit, the album's creation coincided with Bielanski's nine-month struggle with insomnia that saw them listen to an audiobook version of the tale almost nightly.

PONY have already shared three singles from the 10-track album ("Peach," "Did It Again" and "French Class"), and their latest release of the guitar-driven "Très Jolie" marks the fourth. Bielanski understands that dropping a song on Valentine's Day comes with certain expectations, and the band delivers.

"'Très Jolie' is obviously a love song. It's about falling hard and fast, and allowing your love brain to trick you into believing that you're in a healthier mental state than you truly are," they explained in a statement. "I know I tend to hide the ways that I struggle in the beginning of relationships because everything else feels brand new. 'Très Jolie' is about the conflicting emotions of falling in love with someone when you don't quite love yourself yet."

Velveteen follows 2021's TV Baby as the band's second full-length project.

PONY can be seen live in Hamilton (March 28) and Toronto (March 31) in support of Kitchener shoegaze duo Softcult.
