Poison Pen

The Money Shot

What you see is what you get with Brooklyn-based battle rapper Poison Pen. Pictured on the front of The Money Shot, Poison Pen welcomes people with his shot glass held high, seemingly toasting the listener. What he will welcome you to is track after track of drunken debauchery and after taking it all in, you will be hard-pressed not to think you just went on a giant bender. Because he doesn't take himself seriously and carries himself as the town drunk, don't be fooled into thinking that Poison Pen isn't calculated. There are instances on this album that indicate Poison Pen knows exactly what he's up to and how he will be perceived, and he may be onto something. In a genre of music where a significant portion of artists and fans find it imperative to try to be as hard as possible, Poison Pen is confident enough to let loose and burrow into a self-created niche of being the underground's happy-go-lucky piss tank who could care less about what anybody thinks.
