Phosphorescent's Matthew Houck Mulls over Future Album Plans as He Hits the Road

BY Joshua KlokePublished Mar 27, 2013

Phosphorescent just released the project's fourth album Muchacho, on Dead Oceans, but as Matthew Houck, the man behind the experimental Americana outfit, tells Exclaim!, he's not ready to slow down anytime soon.

Houck has revealed in the past that he's interested in releasing one album every year, but though his songwriting abilities certainly reached great new heights on Muchacho, he admits that his plans might have been a bit ambitious.

"I don't know," he says. "Even now, I'm looking at my upcoming schedule and I don't think it'll be possible. I'm just going to be spending too much time on the road — most of this year. I'm not sure when I'll find the time. But that being said, I'm interested in the possibility."

In the meantime, Houck will be dialling back on some of the vices in which he often indulges on the road. He admits he's gotten carried away on past tours. "I don't think I'm that different from anybody else; I'm just trying to figure out what my body can take, and how I can be sustainable. But certain senses of mine are just heightened when I'm on the road."

Luckily for Phosphorescent fans, after seven albums, he still understands what's really important in his life. "I love playing shows and I love being out on the road, though."
