Phoebe Bridgers Responds to the Debate over Her Smashing Her Guitar on 'SNL'
"I told danelectro I was going to do it and they wished me luck and told me they're hard to break"

Bridgers apparently warned guitar company Danelectro that she was going to smash one of their instruments, and they told her ahead of time that it would be difficult to do. In a back-and-forth with Jason Isbell, Bridgers said:
I told danelectro I was going to do it and they wished me luck and told me they're hard to break

She also revealed that SNL made her break the guitar over a fake stage monitor (which sent sparks flying everywhere). Tweeting with Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards, Bridgers said:
they made me a fake one to break lol

Meanwhile, Danelectro commented on the whole situation with a pun:
Hope you have all had a smashing weekend...?

See some of the reactions to the smash heard around the world below, including ones from A.C. Newman, Amanda Palmer, Tegan and Sara and more.
I am so disappointed in Phoebe. There are millions of hungry kids out there who would have loved to eat that guitar. And now no one can eat it. I can't stop crying. https://t.co/x3qBzAP8qV

And as someone that hasn't seen the Phoebe Bridgers guitar smash, only tweets about it, I thought it was cool and she didn't do it for you, dude.

1. her entire vibe is about deadpan humor
2. 99% of the people watching SNL won't know that
3. everyone is now talking about her
4. many will now discover her deadpan humor (& incredible music)
phoebe = 1
critics = 0 https://t.co/pxLplATNfW
if phoebe bridgers lightly denting a cheap guitar on SNL can provoke this level of discourse, we absolutely need to make rock music scary again. bring back the blood and snakes. bring back the music videos where a businessman's head explodes because he hears a guitar solo

The people that are upset Phoebe Bridgers smashed a guitar on SNL are the same ones who are happy when Pete Townshend or Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain did it. pic.twitter.com/44LsAKc9cs

While the brilliant @phoebe_bridgers was smashing a guitar (and slaying her performance) on @nbcsnl last night, I was wandering the dark streets in sweatpants with a fanny pack full of poop bags trying to get my dog to go to the bathroom before I went to bed at 10pm. 🎸 🔥 🧑🎤
