Phil Elverum has revealed that he's currently working on a career-encompassing Microphones box set.
In a new interview for Sonos Radio Hour, Elverum said he's spent the past year putting the box set together and "waiting on pressing plants" — no surprise there — and that the set will include vinyl pressings of every previously-released Microphones record, a book and a "crazy download of like 70 gigabytes of everything, all the embarrassing, mortifying material."
The set will also include stems of songs, and, according to Elverum, will be finished sometime in January, though there's no official release date at the moment.
Last year, the Microphones released their first album in 17 years, Microphones in 2020, which came attached to a short film and a photo book. Earlier this year, Elverum released the vinyl-only Foghorn Tapes, which he described as "100% background music" and "literally just the noisy fuzzed-out tape loop of a 'foghorn.'"
Phil Elverum will head out on his first tour in 18 years as the Microphones in 2022, with shows in Toronto and Montreal in March.
