Peter Murphy

'Lion' (album stream)

Peter Murphy charges on with his prolific solo career next week with the release of his 10th LP, Lion, but you can hear the king of the goths get creepy ahead of time via a full album stream on Exclaim.ca.

A press release notes that the 11-song cycle "sustains a heart-in-throat tension from start to finish," and it certainly plays up Murphy's vocal abilities on dark opener "Hang Up," in which he roars about a Jesus figure against a backdrop of searing guitar distortion. Elsewhere, his iconic baritone booms above the crunchy synth-rock of "I Am My Own Name" and the electric-charge shuffle of "Low Tar Stars," and still reaches for the rafters on comparatively quieter tracks like ballad "The Rose" and the ghoulish showtune stomp of "Ghosts of Shokan Lake."

You can hear those songs and more via the player down below.

As previously reported, Murphy will be bringing songs both old and new on a North American tour this summer, with Canadian dates set up at Toronto's Lee's Palace on June 16 and Vancouver's Rickshaw Theatre on June 27. You'll find the rest of the details here.
