Peter Gabriel will preview new material from his forthcoming tenth album i/o on a 2023 tour, marking his first solo outing in seven years.

"It's been a while and I am now surrounded by a whole lot of new songs and am excited to be taking them out on the road for a spin. Look forward to seeing you out there," Gabriel shared in announcing the tour's European leg, which you can find dates for below.

The trek will mark Gabriel's first shows since his 2016 tour with Sting, which Exclaim! reviewed at Festival d'éte de Quebec in July of that year.

Gabriel's site notes that the tour — for which he'll be joined by a backing band featuring Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché — will "continue in North America in the late summer/fall with dates and ticket information to follow."

While details of i/o have yet to surface, the album will mark Gabriel's first new original material since 2002's Up. In the time since, he's covered works by other artists on 2010's Scratch My Back, had some of those artists cover his songs on 2013's And I'll Scratch Yours, and re-recorded songs from across his career in orchestral fashion for 2011's New Blood.

Gabriel's i/o was initially intended to follow Up with a release in 2004, with a 2003 feature from Sound on Sound characterizing the effort as "based on material from the same sessions as Up." Last year, the artist shared that new material is "closer than you think."
