Over the years Lawnya Vawnya has showcased a number of local bands who are masters of brooding post-punk, and Pet Vet are particularly great at it. There's a pop heart beating hard beneath their disaffection, something that captures the underground hard rock of the mid-'90s, with its spastic arrangements and rolling, flowing rhythms.

Pet Vet are big fans of a now defunct local punk outfit called Trailer Camp and, because his flight was postponed, that band's lead singer, Jon Hynes, was on hand to belt out Trailer Park's "Make Like NASA and Rocket" with Pet Vet. It was a jarring blast from the past but also made total sense in the younger, active band's math-pop set. Shades of Polvo came through in Pet Vet's mighty mix and they were awesome. They're a smart, great band.
