As one of the most talked about sets at Pop, the audience was split between long-time Pere Ubu fans who have been anxiously waiting to see the band for years and curious newbies who were drawn in by the hype. The set was off to a great start with the bass-heavy and angst ridden "Final Solution.” The elaborate guitar work and Theremin were musical highlights, only overshadowed by the undisputable presence of lead vocalist David Thomas. Somewhere in the middle of the set, Thomas started some banter that was easily interpreted as misogynistic. Not only did it immediately make the rest of the show pretty uncomfortable, but the unpleasant tone sent some people straight for the door.
