The Passenger

Escaping the shoes-in-dryers mixing that Lee Gamble was throwing down in the Hanger, NFF13 patrons packed the eatArt garage full for a foot-stomping set of woozy, squelchy acid care of Jesse Creed (a.k.a. the Passenger). It was cool to see him twiddle knobs on a ghostly projection backlit over the crowd, while lighting fixtures draped with ripped sheets occasionally shifted hues above the crowd. It could be said that his music this evening lacked the quirk and funk of acid master Luke Vibert, but Creed's grooves were undeniably worthy in their own right. The guy obviously knows his way around a 303, and his set was a virtual education in its use. There weren't many peaks or valleys overall, as the producer elected to maintain an even keel of pumping 4/4 beats throughout, but this brought his occasional and brief forays into breakbeats into greater relief. Creed left no wonder as to why he is one of Vancouver's hottest tipped up-and-comers these days.
