Origin

Antithesis

Impossibly fast tempos, ripping riffs and hilarious random bass doodles are the cornerstones of a great tech death record. I have no idea how Relapse found a technical death metal act from Kansas but after releasing their latest full-length it’s obvious that Origin have evolved from an already impressive death metal unit into something absolutely fearsome. Behind the kit is the incredible John Longstreth, who got a glimpse of the big time a few years back when he helped out Dimmu Borgir after the departure of Nick Barker. There’s little doubt as to why the Norwegian black metal stars put their faith in Longstreth, as he is the definite highlight of Antithesis. Fusing ridiculously fast blast beats and sudden time-changes results in an almost inhuman performance that shouldn’t be missed. Not to be outdone, the twin axe attack of Paul Ryan and Jeremy Turner twist and tear above the delightfully twangy bass of Mike Flores (check out "Wrath of Vishnu”) and come together into something that is beyond words.Antithesis is definitely a must-listen for fans of tech death.
